Our fundraising target for The Moving Wall exhibit is $20,000. This target assumes that we will have to pay for everything that we need to run the event. Naturally, donations of items or services will reduce our need to raise funds for a successful event. Our hope is to raise money over and above our target so that we can provide memorabilia to visitors, and make a donation to Vietnam Combat Veterans, Ltd., the non-profit organization which travels the country with The Moving Wall.
You can support these fundraising goals directly by clicking the “Donate” button at the top of the page. This online fundraiser is made possible by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gilbert-Perry Post 115 of Attleboro.
Alternatively you can write a check payable to the “City of Attleboro Veterans’ Services” and indicate in the check memo that the donation is for The Vietnam Wall. Our mailing address is: City of Attleboro, Veterans’ Services Department, 77 Park Street, Attleboro MA 02703. According to state law, donations to the City which cannot be used in accordance with the donor’s original intent must be returned.
You can also support our efforts to bring The Moving Wall to Attleboro by participating in one of our upcoming fundraisers here: http://www.attleboromovingwall.org/fundraisers/
Here is a breakdown of our fundraising budget and how we arrived at the $20,000 figure. These line items are in no particular order. Please note that many of these numbers are estimates for the time being, and donations of items or services will reduce our need to raise funds for each line item.
Shipping & Logistics – $5,500
This is the base cost to truck The Moving Wall into the City.
Lodging – $700
The Moving Wall will have two members of its non-profit organization who accompany the memorial during its stay in Attleboro and ensure that it is properly presented and cared for at all times.
Landscaping – $3,000
The Highland Park venue has lain fallow since it was a golf course a couple of years ago. We will seed grass, and install small plantings to enhance the presentation of the exhibit.
Professional Printing – $1,800
We plan to have brochures, flyers, posters, and other materials both to let people know about the event, and to assist with our fundraising efforts. This amount includes printing and paper costs only.
Busing Students – $4,000
The Moving Wall presents a phenomenal educational opportunity to inform our school children about the staggering sacrifice that the memorial represents. We’re working with Attleboro Public Schools to arrange for students to visit The Wall during its stay.
Lighting – $1,500
The Moving Wall will be open to the public 24 hours per day. For safety and security, we will ensure that the entire exhibit is well lit, and we will need lighting equipment to facilitate this.
Sound – $600
Each day we will have a ceremony with a different focus, including the Opening Ceremony, recognition of Gold Star Families, POW/MIAs, and Women Veterans. It is fitting and appropriate that we ensure the audience can hear the speakers during these ceremonies.
Benches & Chairs – $300
We will ensure that visitors to The Wall will have a place to rest and reflect upon the enormity of the sacrifice the 58,320 men and women whose names appear on the wall.
Portable Restrooms – $2,000
The Moving Wall will be open to the public, and we want visitors to be comfortable.
Rubbing Paper & Chalk – $200
Visitors to The Wall are often going to be interested in finding a particular person’s name on the memorial. We’re going to give them the opportunity to bring those names home with them.
Flowers – $400
We want flowers on hand both for visitors to leave for their loved ones and comrades, but also for ceremonies and larger displays.
